Invitation to Upgrade your Certificates!
CDTA, National recently obtained certificates with “Licentiate” versus the old “member” qualification. Anyone who is a Licentiate Member but has the old certificates may contact to purchase a new certificate(s), which will say “reissued on” as the date, for $15.00 plus postage which is $17.00. Please indicate the name as you wish it to appear and which disciplines you require.

Student and Professional Exam Changes for Ballet, Modern & Stage (Tap, Jazz & Acro)
Please be advised that several changes are coming into effect in September 2019 and January 2020. Most of these changes have been previously advertised, however a few are new. We hope that you will be able to easily implement these changes for your 2019-2020 dance season.
Studios who have examined in the past three years will receive a hard copy of all the recent changes in the weeks to come. Please be sure to look out for this package. Those who are not active in examining at this time can request the documents to be emailed to them. Once you have reviewed the changes please forward any concerns to and we will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

National Dance Convention

Thank you so much for promoting the 70th Anniversary Dance Convention in your Branches and sending dancers and teachers to attend it!
There were dance classes, lectures, a competition, Saskatchewan Social, Gala Banquet and a Finale Brunch.

Maria Lewis Memorial Bursary
Deadline to enter approaching soon!

Maria Lewis beloved Vancouver born dancer/teacher, Maria had a notable career with the National Ballet of Canada, the Montreal Ballet, and on various television shows. On her return to Vancouver she established the Maria Lewis Ballet Ensemble in 1969. She took over Ballet Horizons and established a new company named Pacific Ballet Theatre. The company grew to semi professional regional status. Her Pacific Ballet Theatre became known as Ballet British Columbia in 1985. The CDTA B.C, BRANCH is so very fortunate to have a legacy from Ms. Lewis and thus the start of an annual bursary to be awarded to a Senior Ballet Student. The Bursary is in the amount of $500.00 and will be awarded to a Senior Ballet Students annually. To qualify student must have taken the grade four CDTA ballet examinations (or equivalent) receiving the mark of highly commended or honours. Student must be taking a minimum of two ballet lessons a week. Information regarding extra study is most welcome. Maximum age requirement is 18. Bursary to be awarded at the CDTA B.C. Branch 70th anniversary celebration.

August 1 – Will be the launch of updates to the Ballet, Modern and Stage examinations.
Oct 6 – AGM with Reception to follow including performances by the Qualifier Competition Winners and Honorable Mentions. The AGM will include certificate presentations to those receiving Teacher Qualification Upgrades due to the changes to the Student Exam format in Stage and Ballet and to our new Life Members. Another update to the Bylaws will be proposed during the AGM, including changes to the membership levels from National. Also, possible changes to the AGM format and Executive Board. Please note this is an election year. Become involved in your Association.
Nov 3 – Annual Master Classes at Shadbolt Centre, Burnaby BC
TBA – We will also be introducing the sale of commemorative CDTA clothing and items.

2019 Exam Dates

The following dates have been adopted as “SET” dates for CDTA Medal Tests and Professional Examinations.
Candidates for Medal Tests and Pro Exams, please contact a CDTA-accredited teacher to book your tests/exams with the Exam Secretary.
Independent teachers can invite their students to participate and prepare for the Medal Tests.
Professional Examinations can be booked on the dates shown below.

Exams must be booked 6 weeks prior to these dates and fees must be paid 3 weeks prior to Examination Dates. Proposed dates may be changed without notice.
You may also set your own “Special Date” any time to suit your needs, for Medal Tests there must be a minimum of $300.00 and for a Special Professional Examination there is an additional $100.00 fee.
